Flux landscape architecture, in collaboration with Shift architecture, Bureau Stadsnatuur, Acacia Water and Except wins the tender Panorama Lokaal, for the location of Vlaardingen Westwijk! This winning plan has been chosen out of 35 submissions. The tender is organized by the College van Rijksadviseurs and the coalition for this assignment consists of the municipality of Vlaardingen, Waterweg Wonen, Synchroon and the Klankbordgroep West.
The winning proposal ‘Westwijk Rooted’ is about a neighbourhood that is connected to the adjacent polder landscape, it’s reconstruction, the peaty soil, the new metrostation, and of course, the existing and new inhabitants. A new ground level that’s based on a wet soil condition forms the landscape framework of the plan. It makes the neighbourhood climate adaptive, water-robust and biodiverse, while at the same time the ideal conditions for attractive new living environments are created, anchored in the ground level. The plan is constructed on the light and open existing urban structure of Van Tijen and, at the same time, is breaking radically with some original assumptions. Hereby Westwijk is ‘Rooted’ in the landscape and in history.
Flux went on an excursion in the Netherlands. The team has looked at several projects like the Station Driebergen-Zeist, Kerckebos in Zeist and the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Lots of design inspiration for new projects!
Notenboomplein IJmuiden finalized
The implementation of the Notenboompark in IJmuiden has been finished. The park is characterized by relatively simple interventions, which are strongly related to existing heights, trees and paths. The spatial and open character of the park gives the visitors the feeling to use the park for playing, picknicking, sporting and to stay. In the centre of the park is a smoothly designed concrete element, which is carefully implemented into the grass slope, the seating side is constantly changing. Commissioned by Synchroon Developement and in collaboration with the municipality of Velsen.
Gerwin de Vries part of the jury Arc2020 Urbanism Award
Gerwin de Vries of Flux landscape architecture is part of the jury of the Arc2020 Urbanism Award. The award will go to the plan (masterplan, local or regional development plan) that has the most positive impact on the physical- or environmental quality of an area and on the economic and social well-being of a community.
Next to Gerwin de Vries, the jury will consist of Marco Broekman, Saskia Beer, Riëtte Bosch and Harm Tilman. The award ceremony will be on the 12th of November in Amsterdam.

Team M3H and Flux selected for Thomas à Kempisplantsoen Utrecht
M3H and Flux landscape architecture have been chosen as design team for the location Thomas à Kempisweg. In the coming months the team will work on an urban plan, landscape design and architectural design of this important location within Utrecht. Commissioned by Mitros and Portaal, in collaboration with the municipality of Utrecht.
Team Heijmans wins tender in the Afrikaanderwijk in Rotterdam together with XML, ROFFAA and Flux landscape architecture. In the design of 'De Kuil', green quality, climate adapation and social encounters are the key elements.
Commissioned by KondorWessels and in collaboration with OZ architects, Flux is working on the design of the outdoor spaces around a new building at the Vuurtorenweg in Scheveningen.
In collaboration with LEVS architects and commissioned by Wonam, Flux is working on the Spronk area in Groningen. The design includes a climate proof park.
