Future vision for the Wedges of Amsterdam presented!
On Friday 13th December, the manifesto of the Scheggen of Amsterdam was presented in ARCAM (Architectuurcentrum Amsterdam) and handed over to alderman Marieke van Doorninck, Spatial Development and Sustainability of Amsterdam. In the manifesto, Flux landscape architecture, together with Boom landscape, Karres and Brands and LAMA landscape architects, presented their vision of the Wedges of Amsterdam, whereby the wedges can be maintained as the green counterpart of the city and at the same time can provide productive, ecological or economic added value. Until May 10th, 2020, the ARCAM exhibition on the Wedges of Amsterdam can be visited, in which the plans for the wedges can be viewed.
Team Heijmans with NL architects, Workshop architects and Flux landscape architecture have won the tender for plots F12a and F12b in Leidsche Rijn centre. With the winning plan ‘Bellevue’, Leidsche Rijn will have an ensemble of three components, each with its own character, but definitely forming a whole. In the project, the characteristic height difference is seen as an opportunity to make a distinctive plan.
On the south side of the plan is a green valley, which forms an almost barrier-free transition from the landscape to the housing by the stepped building with its lush roof landscape. By opening the blocks we created a large outdoor space with a series of collective gardens with different identities. In line with the cultural axis and located at the gatehouse, the ‘green balcony’ of Leidsche Rijn comes with a large grass staircase in the slope, a new place to stay with great quality for Leidsche Rijn centre and Utrecht.
Werkspoorpad selected for Blauwe Kamer yearbook 2019
The Werkspoorpad project has been selected for the Blauwe Kamer yearbook 2019 on urban design and landscape architecture. It is a design by Flux landscape architecture i.c.w. Charlotte Ernst and Gert-Jan Lith. The book contains the best plans from 2019, selected from 120 entries. The presentation of the book took place in the Werkspoorkwartier, where Flux has worked on the Werkspoorpad and the outer space of the Werkspoorkathedraal. Gerwin de Vries and Robert Kapel gave a tour of the area together with Charlotte Ernst.
"First life, then places, then buildings - the other way around never works". This vision of Jan Gehl has been an important starting point for the VDMA plan, on which Flux has been working on behalf of Synchroon and in collaboration with Cobe, Arup, Skonk and others. The aim was to create a pleasant, green area of the city where everyone feels at home and ‘where local meets global’. In VDMA we add next to the Eindhoven layer and the collection of towers, a third element: the Eindhoven Network. A green network consisting of two enclosed public squares and an accessible roof landscape. The Eindhoven Network is an important addition to the urban fabric of Eindhoven and gives an extra dimension to the city, where biodiversity, tranquility and dynamics come together.
It was an honor to work on this assignment within this team, congratulations to the winning team of Being development!
Flux is looking for new interns per February/March 2020.
HWBP project book presented
The new Hoogwaterbeschermingsprogramma (HWBP) project book was presented at the National Delta Congress under the name: 'Verbindende Lijnen'. The book, made by Flux landscape architecture i.c.w. Koehorst in 't Veld, includes an overview of all the dike reinforcement projects of the HWBP and an extensive reflection by Flux on the strong relationship between the dikes and mobility.
Commissioned by AM, Dura Vermeer, Synchroon, and VolkerWessels Vastgoed, Flux Landscape Architecture worked on an exploration for a landscape vision for Pasgeld, an area between Rijswijk and Delft. This has resulted in a proposal for a robust framework of landscape lines. The landscape structures are based upon the existing landscape, existing water structures and existing trees, and offer a counterweight to the future building assignment in this area. The framework stores and filters rainwater, makes new ecological connections and contains recreational routes that connect different places in the area.
Flux went on an excursion to the Netherlands. The team has looked at several projects in Amersfoort, Almere, Amsterdam, Dordrecht and Leiden. Lots of design inspiration for new projects!
Flux starts research into landscape-inclusive agriculture for CRA
Flux landscape architecture has been selected by the College van Rijksadviseurs (CRA) for a design research into landscape-inclusive agriculture. The question is what the transition in agriculture will look like, which business models are possible and which benefits can be achieved for biodiversity, climate and recreation. Within the research, three different locations are being looked at, Flux will conduct specific research into the Marne area in Groningen. The other locations are the Krimpenerwaard and Salland. The three locations follow from the Panorama Nederland vision that the CRA published earlier this year. During the project there will be a collaboration with the College van Rijksadviseurs, the Louis Bolk Instituut, Kenniscentrum Landschap (RUG) and a broad group of stakeholders from the region.
Flux and Koehorst in 't Veld selected as designers for the HWBP project book
Together with graphic designers Koehorst in 't Veld, Flux landscape architecture has been selected to make the annual project book of the Hoogwaterbeschermingsprogramma (HWBP). Besides an overview of all the projects for that year, the book contains a substantive reflection on the water safety task in the Netherlands. The last 3 years Lola landscape architects was responsible for the content and appearance of the books.
